So far, we can find few women lawyers in cartoons, but there are some. In addition to the aptly named Joanie Caucus from the Doonesbury comic strip, we note She-Hulk of the Marvel Universe, who began life as lawyer Jennifer Walters. Evangeline Whedon is a lawyer in the Marvel X-Men Universe who can transform into a red dragon. Some back story here from the blog Excess of Democracy<\/a><\/p>\n

Another Marvel Universe lawyer is Jeri Hogarth\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

The show Futurama<\/a> mentions a 20th century tv show, “Single Female Lawyer,” which features Jenny McNeal. This show parodies the real life tv show, “Ally McBeal.”<\/p>\n

Women lawyers seem to turn up fairly regularly on reality tv shows. The first one to pop up on a reality show seems to have been Stacey Stillman, a New York University Law School grad, who appeared on Survivor: Borneo. Ms. Stillman was voted off the island quite early, and later sued CBS for fraud, breach of contract, and unlawful business practices, alleging that producer Mark Burnett and other members of the staff had manipulated the outcome of the show.<\/a> Ultimately the parties settled out of court.<\/p>\n

Brooke Struck Stephens competed on Survivor: Guatemala. She earned her law degree from Pepperdine Law School. Read about her and other women attorneys who’ve competed on reality tv shows, including Ms. Stillman, in this Famewatcher article.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

The radio drama Portia Faces Life (also known as Portia Blake Faces Life) featured Portia Blake (played by Lucille Wall),<\/a> a widowed lawyer raising her son in fictional Parkerstown. The show ran from 1940 to 1953 and also had a year run (1954-1955) on CBS.<\/a> An Australian version ran from 1952 to 1970.<\/p>\n
