Koenig on Eleonore Mann, née Ehrlich (1907 – 1980) – ”A Genuine Trailblazer”

Christoph Koenig, Humboldt University of Berlin; BSP Business & Law School; Universitaet Innsbruck, has published Eleonore Mann, née Ehrlich (1907 – 1980) – ”A Genuine Trailblazer“. Here is the abstract.

This chapter explores the biography of Eleonore Mann née Ehrlich, a figure emblematic of the doubled diminishing of the visibility of a female legal academic who is also Jewish. It seeks to address the disparities in historical representation by juxtaposing Eleonore Mann née Ehrlich’s biography with traditional historiography. Her journey from a pioneering legal academic in Interwar Berlin to an advocate for the disenfranchised in West London exemplifies the challenges faced by Jewish female legal professionals. Through this narrative, the chapter aims to illuminate the necessity of a re-evaluated and more inclusive historical narrative around writing the histories of Eleonore Mann née Ehrlich and her contemporaries.
